Realistic fiction/romance
Love and gelato is about Lina Emerson, who lost her mom to pancreatic cancer. Her mom’s dying wish was for her to go to Italy, so Lina sets out to spend the summer with her mom’s friend Howard. Howard turns out to be Lina’s dad. She uses her mom’s old journal and with her new half Italian friend, Ren, goes out and experiences Florence the way her mom did sixteen years before. As she’s reading the journal she finds out more about what happened while her mom was in Florence and suddenly finds herself with a mystery on her hands. As she runs around Italy with Ren, she realizes something. People come to Italy for lots of reasons, but the two reasons they stay are for love and gelato.
This was a really cute story. I really enjoyed it, and I liked learning about Florence and the Italian culture. I couldn’t stop reading it. There was some underage drinking which wasn’t cool, but beside that the book was awesome. I totally recommend it. Warning: you will be craving gelato for a week after you finish it.
